專業(yè)概況
在這里學(xué)什么?The BA Art is a liberal arts degree and features more of a variety of courses from across the university. The choice of art and design courses is very much student-driven, and is ideal for students who want to combine their interests in art or design with a minor or double major in a related or complementary field, such as business, neuroscience or game design/animation.
Ceramics
As students advance through ceramic sequences, they may follow a traditional approach to clay and/or pursue experimentation with the medium. Through lectures and hands-on lab exercises, students experiment with ceramic materials and glaze technology to gain an understanding of raw materials, discovering how to develop and utilize clay bodies and various surfaces to suit specific needs.
Critical Studies
The Critical Studies area provides a historical and critical framework through which students can understand the important theories and practices of art, design, and general visual culture, focusing on the twentieth- and twenty-first century.
Design
The Design area pursues scholarly research through rigorous investigation, devoted study, and cutting-edge innovation.
Digital Media
The Digital Media area recognizes that the digital media is an inter-dependent area of study, and all practices must consider the implications of technology.
Sculpture
Beginning courses explore form, mass, gravity, surface, structure, and associative recognition in three-dimensional art. Primary materials and techniques introduced are clay, paper, plaster, cardboard, found objects (including found material), and wood.
Printmaking
The printmaking area functions as a laboratory for printmaking and other multiple imaging practices. Students become involved in all aspects of printmaking: mark making, the gathering and transformation of images, linear, tonal, and textural techniques, and issues of color, paper, inking, printing, and presentation.
Photography
The photography area provides artists with a clear understanding of the photography medium by exposing the various practices and intellectual positions available, ranging from documentary and representational traditions, to digital photography and new media.
Painting and Drawing
The painting and drawing area emphasizes the broad range of practices currently available to artists. Contemporary painting, life drawing, figurative painting, and specialized courses in narrative drawing and drawing for animators are among the many offerings in this area.
