專業(yè)概況

在這里學(xué)什么？

This programs prepares students with training in modern economic theory and data analysis. The program has a strong focus on econometrics and data analysis which is a highly sought-after skill and gives graduates a competitive edge in the job market. Our students are motivated by the analytical foundations for economics. Our program helps them apply rigorous quantitative methods to policy-relevant questions, inform policymakers, and design policies. It also helps them to understand:

• Global development
• Global inequality
• Global warming mitigation

The Masters in Economics provides internship opportunities with local businesses and non-profit organizations. Students have interned at:

• Northwest Economics Research Center (NERC)
• PGE
• Energy Trust of Oregon
• Cadmus Groups
• Bonneville Power Administration
• Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance

Our students are in small cohorts. This develops into very tight bonds within the cohort which creates their first professional network. Students will study together, learn together, and carry their relationships well into their post-PSU lives.

In the Masters of Economics, we are committed to training our students in modern economic theory and data analysis. Our faculty are deeply involved in research and bring this enthusiasm into the classroom. We are proud to be one of the few Masters programs to be STEM certified. We have contacts in the public and private sectors where our graduates can do an internship, increasing their skill level, their marketability, and their professional networks. Unlike most Economics Master's programs, we provide competitive graduate assistantships to a significant number of our Masters's students. This is unusual for a terminal degree. Students have opportunities to do research and policy analysis by working with PSU's own Northwest Economic Research Center. Students can also work with faculty members in the department in their research and areas of specialization.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH A MASTER'S DEGREE IN ECONOMICS?

Our alumni are split into two groups after graduation. One group who are motivated by economic theory go on for a Ph.D. and generally get financial aid. They have been accepted at universities such as:

Other alumni immediately begin to work in industry, consulting and state government using their data analysis skills. Alumni are located in Oregon and all over the country at places like:

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) To be admitted to PSU for a master’s program, applicants must satisfy University requirements and be accepted by the academic department in which the graduate study will occur. Admission eligibility is based on receipt of a baccalaureate degree equivalent to a United States four-year bachelor's degree from a college or university recognized as an institution of higher education by the Ministry of Education in the relevant country or be regionally accredited within the U.S. Regular Admission: To be considered for regular admission, applicants must have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or the equivalent (on the U.S. 4.0 scale). Applicants who have earned 9 or more letter-graded graduate credits must have a minimum graduate GPA of 3.0 or the equivalent; this graduate GPA supersedes the undergraduate GPA. IELTS: 6.5 overall score with minimum sub scores of 6.5 in reading and writing, TOEFL score of Paper-based: 550 overall; 22 in writing with 20 in reading and listening, TOEFL score of Internet-based: Minimum overall score of 80 with minimum sub scores of 18 in reading and writing, PTE - Academic: 60 overall.
