This programme is offered by Department of Music, Hong Kong Baptist University for holders of Associate Degree or Higher Diploma in the related disciplines who wish to continue on to a Bachelor’s degree in music studies.

For over 50 years, Department of Music has nurtured generations of graduates with a well-rounded practical, creative and intellectual foundation for careers in music. We place a strong emphasis on solo, chamber and ensemble performance throughout all years of study, providing a rich experience in practical music making.

Programme Features

• A non-government-funded honours undergraduate programme.
• A full-time programme which is normally completed in two years.
• Comprehensive studies in musicianship, theoretical and historical knowledge, performance and teaching experience, and creative approaches to applying musical skills in the society.
• Rigorous training in conducting, entrepreneurship, music advocacy and community outreach.

Career Prospects

Students who complete the degree successfully will be well prepared for careers as freelance musicians, private music teachers, ensemble directors and a wide range of music-related positions demanding entrepreneurial and leadership skills.

Programme Structure

A four-year undergraduate programme requires students to complete a total of 128 units, including 66 units of Major Courses, 38 units of General Education Courses and 24 units of Free Elective Courses. Students with Associate Degree or Higher Diploma qualifications will normally be admitted directly into the third year of study to complete the programme in two years.

Specifically, students are required to complete 54 units of Major Core Courses and 12 units of Major Elective Courses.
