專業(yè)概況
在這里學(xué)什么?Future Leaders in government, business, and law need to understand how global developments affect their lives and work. The International Relations major provides the conceptual tools you will need to thrive in the fast-changing world of tomorrow. It is an ideal major for those interested in entering the public policy realm or the business world. It is an excellent stepping stone toward graduate programs in foreign affairs, law, public administration, public policy, urban planning, political science and business.
Learning Goals for International Relations
The School of International Relations (SIR) has identified the following learning objectives for each student who graduates with a Bachelors of Arts (B.A.) in International Relations:
Substantive knowledge of the core concepts, theoretical perspectives, historical trends, and global institutions in International Relations, together with a general knowledge of our four (4) main subfields: International Political Economy, International Politics & Security Studies, Foreign Policy Analysis, and Culture, Gender & Global Society.
Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to international problems and their solutions, including actions by governments, international organizations, firms, NGOs, and citizens.
Competence in social scientific inquiry, including critical and analytical thinking, research design, and qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Foundational understanding of ethical and social responsibilities in a globalized world, developed through study abroad and 4th semester foreign language competence, service learning and civic engagement, and an appreciation of diversity including race, ethnicity, gender, development levels, culture and world views.
Effective communication skills (writing, oral and interpersonal) through writing and presenting information clearly and persuasively.
Professional development through the application of international relations-specific content and skills, effective self-reflection, teamwork skills, and career preparation and networking.
