Develop your expertise in lighting for architectural and urban environments with an added specialisation in high performance buildings. Career options include illumination design and consultancy, lighting product design and specification across a range of industries including property, hospitality, commercial design, residential projects and public events supplemented by an understanding of building services design and strategy. With extensive experience analysing and controlling the physical phenomena affecting buildings, practitioners of Architectural Science have a profound impact on the function, aesthetics and efficiency of architectural spaces. Architectural Science courses can be taken as single or double streams. In the double stream program, the core units from the secondary degree are taken as the electives in the primary degree.

PRIMARY STREAM The Illumination Design program offers strong technical education in human visual perception, methods for quantifying light, lighting techniques and issues of sustainability. The course is suited to program architects, interior designers, engineers, ergonomists and related professionals looking to expand and deepen their knowledge in this area. This program is one of only a few in the world, with an emphasis on producing qualified lighting designers through focus on the multidisciplinary background of lighting knowledge.

SECONDARY STREAM The High Performance Buildings program at the University of Sydney is unique in Australia. It offers the opportunity to pursue or develop an exciting career in the built environment field within a wide range of areas including building services, facilities management, architectural practice, business, sustainable design commercial development, property management and more. It is open to graduates from a range of disciplines including science, engineering, architecture, building and planning. Created in close consultation with industry stakeholders, the program will train professionals who can collaborate with designers, construction teams and facilities managers to achieve sustainable outcomes that raise the bar for world's best practice.

Graduate opportunities

The Master of Architectural Science (Illumination Design) will prepare you to work as an independent lighting designer or lighting specialist, or to work with electrical products manufacturing, lighting management services or an energy services company. The secondary stream will prepare you to work in a specialised capacity in the fields of building services, architectural practice, business, sustainable design, commercial development, property management and more. Some graduates have used the degree as the foundation for a research degree in this field.

為來(lái)自中國(guó)的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Applicants need to have one of the following: a bachelor’s degree with first or second-class honours from the University of Sydney or another approved institution; an equivalent qualification that demonstrates sufficient research experience and capability. English Language Requirements: TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing; IELTS score: A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band; TOEFL - PBT score: A minimum result of 592 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing.
