專業(yè)概況
在這里學(xué)什么?Through the study of biology, students are introduced to the cornerstones of the discipline, leading to an appreciation for the diversity of life and the processes supporting it. Graduates of our program are prepared for diverse career paths. Our alumni have pursued degrees in health professions, advanced academic degrees, roles in the public or private sector, and secondary education teacher licensure. Our graduates leave with the knowledge and experience required to contribute to biological advances that are daily transforming society.
Career paths that begin with a study of biology have grown markedly, with new discoveries in the field and increased advancements in technology. A biology degree prepares students for graduate programs and a range of professions.
Our curriculum is designed to offer a foundation for understanding life processes, through core and ancillary courses. The department offers a variety of electives that allow for individualized interests.
Program Learning Goals
Our program goals align with both the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) "Essential Learning Outcomes" and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) "Vision and Change" for undergraduate biology core concepts and competencies. The headings and descriptions of each number are taken directly from the American Association for the Advancement of Science Vision and Change for Undergraduate Biology Core Concepts and Competencies.
These degree requirements are subject to periodic revision by the academic department, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences reserves the right to make exceptions and substitutions as judged necessary in individual cases. Therefore, the College strongly urges students to consult regularly with their major advisor and CLAS advisor to confirm the best plans of study before finalizing them.
