The Department of Digital Arts cultivates outstanding artists and professionals in the fields of animation, interactive arts and gaming. Within an atmosphere emphasizing curiosity, empathy and social responsibility, a diverse body of students prepares for successful careers in art, technology and entertainment.

Our structured curriculum immerses undergraduates in the execution of individually-produces projects while honing marketable skills for employment. Additionally, the program facilitates collaborative and interdisciplinary efforts through required courses, electives and student groups. Through a culture of freedom of expression students develop unique artistic voices. Small class sizes and mentorship by our distinguished faculty enable students to acquire robust production skills and create a professional portfolio or reel.

Learning Outcomes

In Pratt’s Department of Digital Arts, undergraduates will develop aesthetic finesse, technological skill, conceptual sophistication related to digital media, and thorough comprehension of the potential of art and technology. Graduates demonstrate an expertise in their discipline, a unique voice in their medium and a knowledge of historical works in art and technology. Students then learn to create professional documentation and presentation skills to launch their careers in the Digital Arts.

Areas of Emphasis

2-D Animation

2D Animation courses are constructed to afford a wide exposure to all aspects of animation production and to allow students to focus on the areas of greatest interest. Courses in animation history, character development, storyboarding, and storytelling enhance the animation production courses. The junior workshops are advanced studies in animation production using traditional and digital tools.

3-D Animation and Motion Arts

Students in this concentration focus on self-expression using form and motion, time-based narrative, live action, and digital animation techniques. The emphasis is on strong story telling and provocative experimentation in animated form.

Interactive Arts

Students in this concentration explore computer-human interaction to convey meaning in the form of physical installations, interactive objects, and online artworks. This includes the combination of video, animation, text, audio, and imagery in an interactive environment. Students work with code as a language for innovative artistic expression.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) International applicants must submit official transcripts (academic records) of all secondary school studies as well as any post-secondary studies. A minimum TOEFL score of 79 (Internet); required IELTS score is 6.5; and required PTE is 53 for four-year programs.
